My T-Shirt’s Story

Recently, I decided I wanted to create something special for someone close to my heart. I wanted a creative way to express my love.
My “I am somebody” collection was born out of a poem written by my father. During his junior year in high school, he broke his leg at a football game. This game was meant to be a game changer for his future. Many of his scholarship offers were rescinded because of his injury. My father was devastated. What he envisioned for his future was snatched away from him in a few moments. His plans to retire his mother through a career in the NFL were over.
Toward the end of his senior year he began to try a different approach. He found alternative ways to express his pain and dissapointment. The name of his letter to the universe was titled, “I am somebody”. In his poem he began each sentence with those three words and ended it off with a positive attribution to himself.
When I discovered my father’s poem I gained a deeper understanding about who he was. I learned that writing out his thoughts helped him grasp reality much easier.
This apparel collection is for my younger father’s pain and other humans just like him. No matter what happens, I promise that you matter. We all do. We are important and we are all somebody. This is what “I am somebody” is all about.
